Accidents and incidents must be reported and investigated in order to fulfill legal requirements, ascertain compliance with safety regulations, and assist the university in removing hazardous conditions.
- If you have had an accident at work, you must report it to your supervisor before leaving the workplace. If the injury is too serious for you to do this, have a colleague or a witness do it on your behalf.
- Even if it is a simple incident, it might cause injury or illness to a member of the university or community, or material damage to university property. For this reason, it is still recommended that you file a report in order to create a precedent.
- We also recommend that you inform your union delegate of the incident in case you need future representation.
- Even if there is no immediate physical harm or injury resulting from the incident, it is in your interest to complete and sign a university injury/incident occupational disease report. You want to avoid any potential complications with the CSST (occupational health and safety board of Quebec), in case your situation becomes worse or resurfaces later on.
- If you require medical attention, you should consult your physician immediately after the occurrence, and take appropriate measures to ensure a quick recovery.
- If your injury requires you to miss work, your physician will give you a CSST medical certificate for you to take to the Environmental Health and Safety Office, who will process the CSST claim. You will be required to complete and sign documents.
- The Environmental Health and Safety Office will serve as an intermediary between you and the CSST once all the necessary documents have been completed.
- Forms are available in your department or in the Health and Safety office.
