The movement of an employee from one position to another position which has a lower grade. |
| department |
A service or an office. |

| fiscal year |

The placement of a position in the classification system in use by the University, and which determines the applicable salary scale. |
| grievance |
Any disagreement concerning the application or the interpretation of the collective agreement. |
| immediate supervisor |
The person who has line responsibility for one or more employees. |
| normal requirements |
Normal conditions of schooling, experience, and specific skills required by the University for the awarding of a position. These requirements must follow rationally from the principal functions of the position. |
| part-time employee |
An employee who regularly works less than thirty-five (35) hours per week and/or regularly works less than 12 months in a year. |
| permanent employee |
An employee who is the incumbent of a permanent position in the bargaining unit and has successfully completed the probation period. |
| position |
The set of tasks assigned by the University to an employee, taking into account the job profile. |
| posting |
Procedure according to which the University informs employees of any available position, in accordance with the provisions of article 17. |
| probation |
Period during which the employee, newly appointed in the bargaining unit, is evaluated. |
| probationary employee |
Any employee who has not yet completed the probation period provided for in clause 13.02 a). |
| professional employee |
A person who is employed by the University and who is covered by the CUPEU certificate of accreditation issued by the Ministere du Travail du Quebec. |
| promotion |
The movement of an employee from one position to another position which has a higher grade. |
| seniority |
The total duration of continuous service accumulated by an employee since the date of his/her last hire by the University, and calculated according to the provisions of article 13. |
| spouse |
The definition in the Act Respecting Labour Standards applies, as amended from time to time. |
| step increase |
The salary increase an employee is entitled to when he/she has completed an additional year of experience or an additional year of relevant education over and above the educational requirements of his/her job. |
| temporarily vacated position |
A position is temporarily vacated by its incumbent when the absent incumbent is entitled to return to her/his position as provided for in the collective agreement. |
| temporary employee |
Any employee hired to fill a position which is temporarily vacated by its incumbent, or hired for a period of six (6) consecutive months or more to meet a work surplus or to serve a function in the framework of a special project. At the end or his/her assignment, this employee is laid-off and placed on the recall list provided for in clause 15.04. |
| transfer |
The movement of an employee from one position to another in the same grade. |
| trial period |
A period of time during which the University and an employee evaluate the suitability of the employee for the position. |
| union council |
a body made up of the CUPEU executive committee and 11 members elected from the membership that acts both as an advisory council to the executive committee and as a board of governors respresenting the interests of the membership at large. |
| unit |
A service or an office. |
| vacant position |
Any position which has been definitively vacated by its incumbent or a newly created position. |
